We are a 5-person nonprofit on a mission inspired by the ancient Library of Alexandria: to create a universal database of research information. We gather, organize, and serve info on 280M papers,100M authors, billions of citations and more. We’re passionately open: our code is open source, and our data is free and public domain. We value kindness, creativity, and getting stuff done. Our work supports millions of users every day, and we’re growing fast.
The role is more than just a senior developer--we want someone who will own the entire frontend. Feature ideas, architecture, design, code, UX: if it’s frontend, it’s yours. You’ll be leading the transition from Vue 2 to 3, redesigning our interface, and building a new dashboard to distill insights from our dataset. You’ll work closely with our founder, our backend team (3 devs), and real-world users. If you’ve ever wanted to build something big from scratch with real product ownership, this is your chance. The position is fully remote, with a salary of $300k and great perks to match.
You are experienced, with years of shipping gorgeous, production UIs. You’re a good writer and a great listener. You’re collaborative, kind, and really darn smart. You’re good at architecting--but too much talking and flowcharting drives you crazy, you’d rather just build a prototype and iterate. You redefine features so they’re easier and almost as good. You love to learn. You love to play. You’re relentlessly resourceful. You like elegant code and love beautiful design but what really lights your fire is solving problems for users.
